Same Day Crowns in Carbondale

Traditional dental crowns require multiple appointments and temporary crowns while you wait weeks for laboratory fabrication. Same day crown technology revolutionizes this process, allowing us to design, create, and place your permanent crown in a single visit. This innovative approach eliminates the inconvenience of multiple appointments while providing immediate restoration of your damaged tooth’s function and appearance.

At Rivers Dentistry, Dr. Connor Rivers utilizes advanced same day crown technology to provide convenient, high-quality dental restorations that fit your busy schedule. Our comprehensive approach combines digital precision with skilled craftsmanship, delivering beautiful, durable crowns that restore your smile in just one appointment.

Understanding Same Day Crown Technology

Same day crowns are created using computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology that allows us to design and fabricate your restoration in our office. High-resolution digital cameras capture detailed images of your prepared tooth, eliminating the need for messy impressions. Advanced software designs your crown to fit perfectly while matching your natural tooth color and contours.

The milling unit then carves your custom crown from a solid block of high-quality ceramic material, creating a precise restoration that fits your tooth perfectly. This entire process typically takes 2-3 hours, allowing you to leave our office with your permanent crown in place rather than wearing a temporary restoration for weeks.

Benefits of Same Day Treatment

The most obvious advantage of same day crowns is convenience – completing your treatment in a single appointment saves valuable time and eliminates the need to return for crown placement. You won’t need to wear uncomfortable temporary crowns that can break or come loose, disrupting your daily activities and potentially causing emergency situations.

Same day crowns also provide immediate protection for your prepared tooth, preventing sensitivity and reducing the risk of damage or contamination. The precise fit achieved through digital technology often results in superior comfort and function compared to traditional crowns, while the high-quality ceramic materials provide excellent durability and natural appearance.

The Same Day Crown Process

Your same day crown appointment begins with examination and preparation of your damaged tooth. We carefully remove any decay or damaged tooth structure while preserving as much healthy material as possible. The tooth is then shaped to provide an ideal foundation for your crown, ensuring optimal fit and function.

Digital imaging captures detailed pictures of your prepared tooth from multiple angles, creating a comprehensive 3D model used for crown design. The advanced software allows us to customize every aspect of your crown, from size and shape to color and surface texture, ensuring it blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Digital Design and Customization

The digital design process allows for precise customization of your crown to match your unique dental anatomy. We can adjust the crown’s shape, size, and contours to restore proper bite function while maintaining natural appearance. Color matching technology ensures your crown blends perfectly with surrounding teeth.

The software also considers your bite relationship and jaw movement patterns when designing your crown, ensuring comfortable function and preventing interference with adjacent teeth. This comprehensive approach results in crowns that feel natural and comfortable from the moment they’re placed.

High-Quality Materials

Same day crowns are fabricated from premium ceramic materials that provide exceptional strength and durability. These materials closely mimic the properties of natural tooth enamel, providing similar hardness and wear characteristics. The ceramic blocks used in fabrication are pre-tested for quality and consistency, ensuring reliable performance.

The materials resist staining and maintain their appearance over time, providing long-lasting aesthetic results. The biocompatible properties of these ceramics ensure excellent tissue compatibility, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or tissue irritation commonly associated with metal restorations.

Precision Fit and Comfort

Digital technology allows for incredibly precise crown fabrication that often exceeds the accuracy of traditional laboratory methods. The computer-controlled milling process creates crowns with exact specifications, ensuring optimal fit and minimal adjustment requirements. This precision translates to better comfort and function for patients.

The accurate fit also creates better seals around the crown margins, reducing the risk of bacterial infiltration and secondary decay. This superior seal contributes to longer crown lifespan and better long-term oral health outcomes compared to poorly fitting restorations.

Comparing Traditional vs. Same Day Methods

Traditional crown procedures require at least two appointments, separated by 2-3 weeks, for laboratory fabrication. During this time, you must wear temporary crowns that can break, come loose, or cause discomfort. Same-day crowns eliminate these concerns while providing comparable or superior quality and durability.

The digital workflow also reduces the potential for human error in impression-taking and laboratory communication, resulting in more predictable outcomes. Many patients find same-day crowns more comfortable and natural-feeling than traditionally fabricated restorations. Please also note the following:

  • Any patients electing gold crowns will experience the traditional method: a temporary crown for 2-4 weeks, followed by a second appointment for delivery of the gold crown.
  • All two-visit crowns will receive a custom-milled temporary crown from the same crown mill that produces our permanent ceramic crowns. These temporaries look incredibly natural and aesthetic
  • Other situations may at times require two-visit crowns, and will receive a high-quality milled temporary before final crown placement
