How does Dental Insurance work?

Dental insurance is different than medical insurance. Medical insurance typically costs about $300-700 a month per person and may pay up to 100% for medical care that costs thousands of dollars.

Dental insurance typically costs $20-$70 a month and is designed to pay for preventive care only. It may assist with paying for interventional treatment due to tooth decay or gum disease, but it will never pay 100% for the repair of moderate to severe dental issues.

We are aware of this, so we provide multiple financing options to help our patients get the care they need.

We will pre-estimate your patient portion for your treatment at the time of service and collect that portion, then submit your claims to your dental insurance company on your behalf. In the event that your insurance company denies payment for the care that you need, we will attempt at least one appeal using thorough documentation and narratives to try and maximize your benefits.

What if I don't have dental insurance?

You are absolutely welcome as a patient at Rivers Dentistry! We want to dispel the myth that a patient must have dental insurance to be seen.

If you do not have dental insurance we will provide a clear proposal of recommended treatment for your review and accept all forms of payment listed above on the date of service.

We even offer an in-office membership plan, which is designed to help all patients get the care they deserve and need.

Our in-office membership plan is $40/ month for adults without gum disease ($50/ month for adults with gum disease due to the extra cleaning these patients require in a year), children under 13 are $30/ month.

In-office plan members receive two professional teeth cleanings a year (three with a gum disease diagnosis), once yearly X-rays, both periodic exams for the year, and one emergency visit and X-ray diagnosis should an unexpected issue arise throughout the course of the year. In-house members also receive a 15% discount off all office fees (excluding clear braces).

Financial Protocol

Thank you for choosing us as your dental care provider. We are committed to your treatment being successful. Please understand that payment of your bill is considered part of your treatment. The following is a statement of our financial protocol, which we require that you read and sign before any treatment. We hope this protocol will facilitate open communication and help avoid potential misunderstandings, allowing you to always make the best choices for your care.

Insurance:

Full payment of the patient portion is due at the time of service. We will submit an insurance claim for the services rendered to your insurance company as a courtesy to you. Please remember your insurance policy is a contract between you and your insurance company. We are not a party to that contract (with the exception of AETNA and CIGNA). As a courtesy to you, our office provides certain services, including pre-estimates which we send to the insurance company at your request.

Please be aware some or perhaps all of the services provided may or may not be covered by your insurance policy. Any balance is your responsibility, whether or not your insurance company pays any portion.

Payment:

To schedule appointments for services with a fee over $750.00, we will require that you have a credit card on file at the time of scheduling.

For our patients that do not have dental insurance, we have a membership plan for as low as $40.00 per month.

Missed Appointments:

Please allow 48-hour notice for any cancellations. This will enable us to accommodate another patient waiting for treatment; if you give less than 24-hour notice, you will be charged a broken appointment fee of $75.00 per appointment.
